Module 4: Using the infosphere: Evaluating the Web

  • Choose 3 of the best sites in the previous task and evaluate the sites according to the tutorial. Each site need to be annotated and include reliability and authority of site/source/article/idea or subjects discussed/ purpose of site.
1st site - Simply Super Software (Simply Super Software, 2009)
This website offers the free program Trojan remover 6.7.9. It contains detailed information about the programs available for download. The site claims to be 100% clean against virus, spyware and adware is 100% certified.

There are page links available on FAQ, contact details for sales and support as well as snapshots of the programs available for download including a clear description of the program. The site explains OS compatibility and includes a Privacy policy advising the using that their information is made available to third parties. The site clearly sets out and explains the use of Firewalls, Malware issues, installing/uninstalling the program. It also offers the user the necessary information on how to submit files to Simply Super Software for analysis of Trojans and malware etc.

Simply software is registered to Simply Super Software based in UK, the only downfall this site would have is that it is created by an unknown source, therefore not fully trustworthy.
  • Compare your final analysis and annotation with the material you saved for the last task. For you own future use which ‘body’ of information would be most useful to refer back to?
I would choose my annotated reference over the snap shot, as the snapshot does not give reference to source or author or reliability etc.
  • External users (i.e. if you included this site as a hyperlink or resource on a website) which ‘body’ of information would best help them judge if the site was useful or of interest to them?

I would choose the annotated reference again.
