Module 5: PREPARING FOR FUTURE SHOCK

Can you think of some of the developments expected to impact on our use of the net?
Can you think of some of the developments expected to impact on our use of the net?

One development would be found in programming languages. We saw the introduction of Pascal or C++, then other programs and languages such as .Net or ASP.Net, and Java. It can be seen that the more the program develops, definitely impacts on what content is then placed onto the internet.

Java is a software that is changing, with the introduction of Mobicents which is an open source implementation of JAIN/SLEE, which is already rejuvenating the Java Communications Community. We belive that Mobicents will become the launch pad for a number of new JAIN sub-projects. (Microsystems, unknown). Better and improved graphics equals better and improved websites.

Then comes the concept of gaming which is always under construction, from the simple 2d games came 3d games such as Duke Nukem to the virtual tournament games held in Korea. Are these just games? It seems the common factor of money does play a major part. Whilst people are paying to participate in play as well as gamble, the profits needs to go somewhere and therefore economic growth is impacted on the lives of players, gamblers and creators of such virtual tournaments, which then opens the door to create bigger and better games for bigger profits. These tournaments are creating a society where face-to-face gaming is slowly being removed and replaced with virtual games.

Internet and web development can offer school lessons on the internet, no longer the need to attend classroom, when the virtual classroom is at home.

Removing yourself from the internet will be seen in the future as removing yourself from society. To conduct a profitable business in the future your website will be a necessity rather than thought.

My last thought would be online funerals. If you cannot attend the funeral, watch it live online.
